Father, our hearts are broken as we remember the death of fifty of your beloved children in Orlando one week ago.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken that many of these LBGT young people needed a nightclub to be a safe space because their Christian churches and homes were unsafe for them.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father our hearts are broken that our gay brothers and sisters read our statements of sympathy now and rightly ask where we have been during their long years of unnoticed crises.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken that so many Christians would rather fight gay marriage than love our gay neighbors.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken that we have allowed the divisions inside Your Church to drive a wedge between You and many outside the Church.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken that in our desire to defend your truth, we have maligned your grace.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken that we have been quick to become angry, quick to speak painful words, and slow to listen to painful stories.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken that so few of our LBGT brothers and sisters have an honest and loving friendship with even one of your followers.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken that even now our most likely path is to say a prayer or two and to live unchanged lives.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, our hearts are broken, but insufficiently broken.

Today we remember that our separation from you so broke your own heart that you came in the flesh of Jesus of Nazareth.

Today we remember that Jesus’ body and blood were broken and spilled out so that all creation could be reconciled to you.

Today we remember that your Spirit is forever interceding for us when we hurt so much we don’t even know how to pray, and even now your Spirit fills this bread and this cup with living grace for all who want it.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.

Father, break our hearts for all in pain.  Make us truly one family so that our hearts can be made whole and holy together in your love.  Help us to live like Jesus, giving ourselves in brokenness so that our world may know your unfailing love.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAL OUR HEARTS.   AMEN.
